Introduction: Who is Lord Shani? In the vast pantheon of Hindu deities, Lord Shani (Shani Dev) occupies a unique and often feared position. He is the personification of the planet Saturn (Shani Graha) and is considered the most powerful karmic judge. Unlike other gods who bless with immediate boons, Shani Dev rewards and punishes based strictly on one’s Karma (actions), Kriya (deeds), and Vyavahar (behavior).

If you are going through a difficult phase, do not ask, “Why me?” Instead, ask, “What is Shani trying to teach me?” Serve the poor, respect your parents, speak the truth, and be patient. As the Shani Mahatmya promises: After the darkest night of Shani’s trial, the sun of prosperity and peace will rise. Om Shani Devaya Namah. shani mahatmya in english

The word Shani means "slow-moving." Just as Saturn takes approximately 30 years to orbit the Sun, its effects are slow, steady, and long-lasting. Shani Mahatmya, therefore, is not just a collection of myths but a profound spiritual philosophy teaching justice, humility, patience, and self-correction. Lord Shani is the son of Surya (the Sun God) and his consort Chhaya (Shadow). The story of his birth explains his dark complexion and stern nature. When Chhaya was pregnant with Shani, she meditated fervently on Lord Shiva. As a result, Shani was born with a dark, almost blue-black complexion, and his very first gaze made his stepmother, Sangya (the first wife of Surya), run away. Introduction: Who is Lord Shani
