Rickysroom Rickys Resort May 2026

The internet did what it always does: it projected.

That’s the twist. The resort is just the room with better lighting. rickysroom rickys resort

And they may both belong to the same person. Ricky’s Room started as a meme. Then it became a mood. The internet did what it always does: it projected

The first known reference to Ricky’s Resort appeared as a photoshopped postcard: “Wish you were here – Ricky’s Resort – All-inclusive existential dread package.” The image showed a 1980s Miami hotel lobby—pink stucco, palm fronds, neon tubing—but empty. No tourists. No staff. Just an eternal 3 AM vacancy. And they may both belong to the same person

But a room, even a sad one, has a door. And that’s where Ricky’s Resort enters.

A few artists have merged the two into a single installation: Ricky’s Room Resort —a hotel room that is also a prison cell. The bed is made of cardboard. The “ocean view” is a 14-inch CRT playing a VHS of a wave. The resort keycard opens a lock on the inside of the door.
