Pepi Litman (also known as Pepi Littmann) was born in (present-day Sighetu Marmației), a town then in the Kingdom of Romania, now in Maramureș County, northern Romania. She is best remembered as a Holocaust survivor and the mother of the renowned Yiddish author and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel. Her birthplace, Sighet, was a vibrant center of Hasidic Jewish life before World War II.
