Young Ian stays behind. Not as a prisoner — as a choice. He has found something among the Mohawk: a chance to mourn, to learn, to become someone other than the boy who betrayed a friend.

As the Frasers lead Roger away, Ian watches. Then he turns and walks back toward the longhouse.

Snow dusts the cabin roof. Inside, Brianna rocks Jemmy by the fire. When the door opens and Roger stumbles in — thinner, scarred, mute — she doesn’t ask where he’s been. She just rises, places the baby in his arms, and weeps. outlander s04e13 h264

Roger looks down at his son. His lips move. No sound comes. But Jemmy’s tiny hand curls around his finger. Young Ian stays behind

“I’ve come for the man called Roger MacKenzie.”

Outside, as dusk bleeds into night, Claire finds Father Alexandre’s old rosary in her sporran — the one from the mission. She presses it into Kaheroton’s hand.
