When the police brought Shadow before a judge, something unexpected happened. The boy's mother, a vegetable vendor, walked into the court. Dr. Avinash Sinha, the head of the hospital, was a brilliant but cold surgeon. He hated chaos, and Shadow was chaos personified. "You are not a doctor," Dr. Sinha sneered one day, seeing Shadow feeding a homeless patient. "You are a nuisance. A failed pirate who watches too many films."
He would sit with the frightened families in the cancer ward. He would bring stale bread for the old man whose son never visited. He would make the crying children in the pediatric ward laugh by mimicking movie dialogues. He called them his "Jaadu Ki Jhappi" rounds.
