hangs halfway out the window, singing a distorted version of a Bollywood song. Next to him, OMKARA SINGH OBEROI (26, wire-rimmed glasses, a sarcastic smirk, reading a philosophy book even in the rain) tries to shield himself from the spray.

“Family. It’s a word people throw around like confetti. But in this house, family is a contract. And I am the signatory.”

“Bhai, we brought you life.”

Shivaay watches Anika disappear down the hallway. He picks up the photograph of his mother. For the first time in years, a ghost of a smile touches his lips.

Silence. The rain pounds harder.

“Fifty thousand? You underpaid. This is going to cost us a fortune in therapy.”
