★★★★☆ (4/5)

First, the dubbing quality is surprisingly good. The voice artist for John Coffey (originally played by Michael Clarke Duncan) captures his gentle, sorrowful tone with remarkable sincerity. The dialogues in Tamil retain the soul of the original – especially Coffey’s famous line, "I’m tired, boss" , which has been translated with emotional weight rather than literal accuracy. Paul Edgecomb’s (Tom Hanks) voice also feels natural and age-appropriate across the film’s time jumps.

That said, if you love tear-jerkers like Anbe Sivam or Mouna Ragam , this dubbed version of The Green Mile will hit you just as hard. Keep tissues ready – the last 45 minutes are devastating in any language.

On the downside, the lip-sync is occasionally off by a fraction, which might distract purists. Also, the Tamil vocabulary sometimes becomes too formal for the setting – a prison cell in Louisiana doesn’t need polished literary Tamil.

The Green Mile is already a timeless classic in world cinema. Watching it in Tamil dubbed version brings this emotional powerhouse closer to home audiences who might not be comfortable with English subtitles.

Highly recommended for family viewing (adults and older teens) who want a classic Hollywood drama without language barriers. Don’t expect perfection in dubbing, but expect your heart to be moved.
