This paper investigates the motivations, security risks, and functional degradations associated with sideloading older Facebook APKs. Through a controlled analysis of versions spanning 2016 (v86.0) to 2023 (v412.0), we identify a critical trade-off: while older versions offer reduced resource consumption and circumvention of certain modern tracking mechanisms, they introduce severe vulnerabilities, including unpatched WebView exploits, broken SSL/TLS certificate chains, and non-compliance with GDPR/CCPA data portability requirements.
