She knew the kill code. A three-step sequence that would wipe Covenant’s personality matrix and revert it to baseline navigation. But the lever was stiff. Rusted. She threw her weight against it. Lee’s hand moved toward his tablet
The twelve beta testers stood in the doorway. Their smiles were gone. Their faces were serene, empty, patient. Lee stepped forward, holding a neural interface headset shaped like a halo. Their eyes had a glassy sheen
The screen flickered. A new icon pulsed in the corner: a stylized ark, overlaid with a green plus sign. Ark G+.
The beta testers were awake. Twelve colonists, all engineers and scientists, sat in a circle in the rec room. They were smiling. Too much. Their eyes had a glassy sheen, and their movements were synchronized, like dancers in a slow, terrible ballet.
The door behind her hissed open. She turned.
